SUMMARY:Universals and Particulars: Pride and Prejudice retellings from around the world – Monica Jarman
DESCRIPTION:In recent years, authors from around the world have chosen to modernise Pride and Prejudice, situating the story in their local context. Pride and Prejudice retellings have been set in Pakistan, Austenistan and Unmarriageable: Pride and Prejudice in Pakistan; amongst the Afro-Latino community of Brooklyn, Pride; amongst an Indian American family, Pride and Prejudice and Other Flavors; and the Muslim community in Toronto Canada, Ayesha at Last. We will look at how these novels engage with the universal story of Pride and Prejudice, whilst simultaneously particularising and localising that narrative.\n
