Country Weekends

JASA holds regular Country Weekends. This is a more informal event than the conference and is recommended as an excellent way for new members to get to know others in the Society. The Weekend is designed around small, informal discussion groups and workshops, all conducted by members, who also occasionally provide the entertainment on the Saturday evening. The accommodation, though comfortable, is less formal and less expensive than that provided in a hotel and the general atmosphere is designed for the maximum of enjoyment whilst ‘talking Jane’ for a whole weekend.

Recent themes for JASA country weekends have included Marvellous Mansfield Park; Jane Austen and You; Jane Austen and Art; Jane Austen and Marriage; Jane Austen’s London; etc.

My favourite JASA events are the Country Weekends and the biennial Weekend Conferences. Having the opportunity to attend great talks, catch up with old friends and make new ones leisurely for 2-3 days has given me much enjoyment over the past 20 years.”

While weekend conferences are always enjoyable, educational and stimulating and offer countless opportunities for developing friendships, the country weekends remain our favourite events. At these delightfully happy JASA “family” gatherings, our own members generously share their knowledge and ideas with us and the discussions are always animated and thought-provoking.”

I really enjoy the Country Weekends. The talks are just as professional but the atmosphere is very relaxed with a lot of fun. They are a wonderful introduction to the Society.”
