25 years ago, Luckington Court in the village of Luckinton was the Bennet family home in the BBC’s 1995 TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. In 'The Making of Pride and Prejudice', location manager Sam Breckman recalls seeing it for the first time: ‘I saw a flash of ochre in the distance and thought, “What’s that?” and I arrived at Luckington Court. I thought, “I’ve found it!”
The crew spent three weeks transforming Luckington Court into Longbourn; furniture, radiators and washbasins were removed, some walls were painted and others covered with double walls to hide wardrobes. In the garden, plants that would not have been there in the Regency era were all removed and replaced by historically correct vegetation. Fliming in and aroung Luckington Court lasted for 8 weeks. The owner had to decamp to the housekeeper's room during the day and slept in the old nursery; her own bedroom was occupied by Mrs Bennet.
In 2017 Luckington Court came up for sale and was, for a time, rumoured to become the marital home of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle.
Luckington Court is not open to the public, but from the public road you can catch a glimpse of the ochre façade.
