From the earliest written stories, people have been picking up on them, adding their own spin, a different point of view, or moving the characters and the plot from their origins to a new place. Jane Austen is no exception. Gillian will explain the basics of Fanfiction (or Derivative Fiction as it is often known), some of the terminology, give a history that may surprise you, then talk more about those fics specific to the works of the beloved Jane.

Gillian Brent has a background in technical support, teaching, writing, cooking, and general mayhem. This talk will have some aspects in common with the one given to the Australian Brontë Association, but will cover many new and …. shall we say exciting … areas too.
